Category: the Rant Board
O.k. like now I am say a bit miffed for here I logg on and WHAT is a Zone User (Name withheld) doing except to over and again show WRITTEN PROFILES of Users of The Zone BBS in Quick Notes! If I want to view someone's WRITTEN PROFILE I think I can do that for myself...
ahh grace, so you're complainging over a convosation i had with another user?
well, we were having a debate about the zone, and username changes.
so, if you're talking about me, beware! i won't take this lightly
AT NO TIME IN THE AFOREMENTIONED POST #1 WAS THE NAME "ITERNITY" USED...
no name was used, so for all i know, it could have been me
I wholeheartedly agree with this, and have done my fair share of ranting about it myself, though not on the boards. Jim and Kai do write fantastically marvelous things, and it makes me sad that they shortened QN's just because some people didn't want to red them. The tab key is there for a reason. *Sighs*.
oh they do.
i love both of there logins
But, the character limit on the boards has been doubled from 4000 to 8000, so now they can display even more of their writing talent on the boards. Like Harp has said, the qn's are quick notes, not quick novels.
See, I actually agree with Chelsea here, I sai openly in qn recently that if you start reading a qn you don't find interesting, hit your tab key, it's not difficult, sure maybe some qn were incredibly long, but does it really matter? it's for real time discussion. The boards are more for debate than light hearted discussion, and with the boards a person is made to interest a user by the subject heading they use. if something doesn't look interesting on the page of topics, I don't click on it. I don't have time or inclination to read absolutely everything.
Also, if I like others want to share what I think to be a great set of song lyrics, should I go and post it to a board? I don't think so, there is a place in graffitti for such, but often just on the spur of the moment I listen to something and want to share. it's not my favourite song or anything, but I think it worth sharing. Will I always be able to do this whith a qn limit of 500 carictors? I doubt it.
I also think with changes like this that affect all the users we should have a right to comment before it's done, We had heard murmerings about this possibility before it happened, but why did noone start a board asking for views? I suggest because if we had, like the exchange of such views in qn, they wouldn't be listened to. so I suggest when something major like this is being considered, admin or cl's should post it to the suggestions board, and then listen to how we feel about it.
I've not really heard anyone complain about qn's being too long except on the odd occasion, yet I heard so many people saying they would rather they weren't shortened. but even if they were shortened, why to an eighth of there origional size? I mean some shortening could have been accepted by everyone I think.
Something I forgot to say is, that it took a lot after recent exchanges on the boards with Grace, for me to even click on a topic she created, so I'm really hoping that you can actually keep to the topic at hand, and not drift off into other randomly obnoxious ramblings.
Having said that, I guess I just did what I've said I hope you won't, but you've spoilt much of the boards for me recently, and I know I'm not alone in that view.
Kevin,
You most definitely are not alone in that view. I do not often read posts started by her, but I did want to read this one because of the subject matter.
I was in agreement about having the qn length shortened, but in the only public qn discussion I remember seeing about this topic, I was under the impression the character length might be cut in half to 2000 or perhaps to 1000, but I didn't know they would cut it to 500. While my own qn's are probably rarely more than 40 or 50 characters, I do think this cut was a bit drastic and agree that a board topic started by the admins should have been created to get different views.
Hey, wait a minute! What the heck is a QN and how do I use this feature? Please help me.
In regards to Post #8: I am in TOTAL AGREEMENT with the paragraph stating, "I also think with changes like this that affect all the users we should have a right to comment before it's done, We had heard murmerings about this possibility before it happened, but why did noone start a board asking for views? I suggest because if we had, like the exchange of such views in qn, they wouldn't be listened to. so I suggest when something major like this is being considered, admin or cl's should post it to the suggestions board, and then listen to how we feel about it." EXTREMELY GOOD POINT BLACKBIRD ~ EXCELLENT IN FACT!
...in regards to Poster of #11: A QN (qn) stands for QUICK NOTES. There are BOTH public Quick Notes AND Private Quick Notes.
A quick note is just another way of interacting on the site. Everytime you refresh your page by clicking on a link, or pressing F5, if any users have written any quick notes then they will display near the top of the page.
However I see from a quick peak at your profile Raskolnikov that you have turned all quick notes off so you'll not be able to see them.
Thanks. Dan.
Dan/Harp,
Let me put in a plug here for the help files for new users.
If there were help files, then Raskolnikov wouldn't have had to ask his question here in the middle of another topic where it is likely to be over looked by people who might be able to answer this question best.
Fortunately, the ever vigilant Harp was Johny-on-the-spot and able to give a very lucid response.
What does it take to get help files for new users?
Bob
i agree with grace, there was no reason to cut the qn length. i didn't mind the long messages, found them intresting in fact. the adminms should consider all the users, not one or two who complain all the time. this isn't fair to us the majority.
BlBobby,
To: Raskolnikov,
Greetings to Rat,
